In Memoriam of Princess Marie of Liechtenstein
In August 2021, Liechtenstein bid farewell to its esteemed and beloved mother of the country. Princess Marie of Liechtenstein died aged 82 after suffering a stroke. Philately Liechtenstein now wishes to commemorate her life and work with a classy-looking souvenir sheet "HSH Princess Marie" (face value: CHF 6.30).
Marie Aglaë Bonaventura Theresia was born Countess Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau in Prague on 14 April 1940 and grew up in Germany after her family fled the former Czechoslovakia. After marrying the then Hereditary Prince Hans-Adam II in 1967, she devoted herself primarily to her family with their four children Alois, Maximilian, Constantin and Tatjana. After Hans-Adam II was appointed permanent deputy by his father Prince Franz Josef II in 1984 and entrusted with the administration of state affairs, the Princess henceforth performed representative duties at her husband's side.
However, it was not only the closest environment of the Princess that experienced her care and humanity: Marie was strongly committed to social institutions in Liechtenstein. With her warm-heartedness and strong commitment to help people in need, she will go down in Liechtenstein's history as a revered mother of the country.
