Monte Santa Trega, the mouth of the Miño and the sea coast define both A Guarda as a territory and as a destination to the south of Pontevedra and on the border with Portugal.
Mount Santa Trega is a benchmark for its heritage, religious and landscape values. We cannot forget that this mountain is an excellent viewpoint of the mouth of the Miño, an image that is engraved on everyone who visits it.
Before the visit to the Archaeological Museum, at the top, it is recommended to start the visit to the Castro de Santa Trega. This castro is considered a citania due to its extension, it exceeds 20 hectares, and was inhabited by more than 4,000 people, which implies an important urbanization of the space. Currently less than 20% of the castro is uncovered and the best preserved part is located on the access road to the top.
About 500 meters from the castro, the Forest House is located, there you can park the car and start the visit on foot to the archaeological site. From this car park a complete overview of the excavated area is offered, making it easier to understand the organization of the constructions around patios, narrow streets and the wall.
In addition, from the forest house you can see the Mergelina neighbourhood, the southern area of the recently excavated fort, and which starts off with a small circular route that makes it easier to get to know this site.
From the Casa Forestal you can continue the ascent on foot and following the Via Crucis you will reach the Chapel of Santa Trega. A few meters away is the Archaeological Museum of Santa Trega (MASAT) which preserves the remains found throughout the excavations such as coins or various stone and ceramic objects. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Those who like to walk have the PR-G 122 Camiños do Trega route. This network of linked trails of low difficulty allows you to enjoy the views and the heritage of Mount Santa Trega.
Finally, highlight a sunset from Mount Santa Trega or any point on the coast, they are postcard.
