Romfilatelia introduces into circulation on Thursday, 17th of February 2022, the issue of postage stamps “Octav Bancila, 150th anniversary of his birth”, that illustrate paintings by a master of colors and diversity of works, a renowned expressionist painter.
The issue consists of four stamps, four mini-sheet, 2 "first day" cover and for fans of maximafilia, 4 maximum books, being completed by a special philatelic map.
Octav Bancila is a member of Romanian art as the most representative Protestant and revolutionary painter. It is well known that after returning from studies in Germany, he found himself in the midst of social events related to the causes that triggered the 1907 uprisings.
Without being noticed as a master of colour, the painter gave his paintings a colouring specific to Expressionism, the colour being subordinate to the drawing.
“I think that no painter, since Grigorescu, has enjoyed so much popularity and so much sincere love among the wide social classes, of the people, like master Bancila… And rightly so”. Nicolae Tonitza, 1936.
Romfilatelia thanks the representatives of the Cotroceni National Museum, the National Museum Complex “Moldova” Iași and the Iasi Art Museum for the documentary support provided to the realization of this stamp issue.
