The face value of the new stamp is €1.00, which corresponds to the postage of letter-post items in the weight class up to 20 grams within Latvia. The release of the stamp is accompanied by the issue of a special cover with a print run of 1,000 copies.
The visual design of the stamp and the cover created by the artist of the philatelic releases Lilija Dinere is based on the materials from the Misiņš Library of the Academic Library of the University of Latvia.
Jānis Poruks (1871–1911) is one of the most outstanding representatives of Latvian literature at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. His works have been intellectually influenced by both European cultural tradition and contemporary art, while maintaining a connection with the specifics of the Latvian environment. The writer’s literary creation is related to the formation of the cultural type of romanticism in Latvian literature; it has the features of neo-romanticism and symbolism, while the works mark and comprehensively address the issues of physical and spiritual existence important for the society and the individual at the turn of the century.
