Tivat Saline
The area of the Saline is located in the swampy part of the coastal zone of the Bay of Tivat and covers the uninhabited floodplain in the Grbalj region. In the flora and vegetation of the Montenegrin coast, the area of the Saline is recognizable by the vegetation that inhabits salt marshes. As such complex types of natural vegetation on silty-clay substrates have already disappeared in most habitats on the eastern Adriatic coast, preserving the integrity of the Tivat Saline as a safe habitat for halophytic vegetation stands out as a particular environmental challenge. 14 representatives of amphibians and reptiles have been registered in the area of Tivat Saline.
So far, 111 bird species have been registered in the Saline, which represents over 20% of the total number of species of European ornithofauna. The Saline is the habitat of many endangered species, which is why they are protected as a special floristic and faunal reserve.
