Postage Stamp Day Simo Popovic - Author of the First Stamp

Duke Simo Popović is a famous writer, author and politician. He stood out as Secretary of Prince Nikola, who gave him the title of the Duke. He represented Montenegro in various diplomatic and political missions. He was also the governor of the Montenegrin-coastal region. In the history of Montenegro postal services, Duke Simo Popović was recorded as the author of the first design for the postage stamp.

In his Memoirs, he says: "The draft of the first postage stamp, which was created in Vienna, is mine. The Prince requested that I design a stamp, he liked it and ordered Subotić to send it to Vienna to make a stamp based on it." Montenegro Post Service, within the edition The Postage Stamp Day - Simo Popović - author of the first stamp, publishes a commemorative stamp, maximum card and the First Day Cover. The author of the design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
