We began this Definitive series in 2012 featuring the portrait of Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark. The stamp design was created by Norwegian Martin Mörck and is based on a photograph by the official photogra-pher to the Danish Royal Family, Steen Brogaard. The Definitive series will be expanded on 21st June 2019 with yet another denomination; the eighth in the se-ries since it was first launched.About our QueenMargrethe Alexandrine Þorhildur Ingrid was born on 16th April 1940 at Amalienborg Palace, Copenhagen.
From 1946 to 1955, Princess Margrethe attended Zahle’s school, including on a private tuition basis at Amalienborg from 1946 to 1949. As a result of a constitutional amendment, she became heir to the throne in 1953. After the death of her father, King Frederik IX, in January 1972, she was proclaimed Margrethe II, Queen of Denmark.The Queen and GreenlandQueen Margrethe has visited our country many times since her first visit to Greenland in 1960, especially after she became Denmark’s Regent. Princess Margrethe’s Children’s Home in Tasiilaq had already been inaugurated three years before her first visit to Greenland. The inaugura-tion took place on 17th September 1957.
Princess Margrethe’s Children’s Home has continued to be a very well-loved institution in this town, right up to the present day. The Princess Margrethe School in Upernavik was also named after our monarch.In general, the children of Greenland have been very dear to the Queen’s heart. She is the patron of the Greenlandic Children’s Association. Therefore, there are numerous reasons why the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family are, and will continue to be, a natural point of common interest to modern Greenland.
