Olympic Games are magnificent multi-sport event held every four years. The original Olympic Games were first recorded in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece.
The first of the IOC's Olympic Games were the 1896 Summer Olympics, held in Athens, Greece, on the initiative of French nobleman Pierre de Coubertin.
Based on the idea of nobility and Motto "it is not about winning but taking part", Olympics (and international sports in general) are faced with issue of doping, or performance enhancing drugs, as well as malversation and corruption. Anyway, it does not effect on popularity and importance of the world sport event.
The 2008 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympic Games, will be celebrated from August 8, 2008 to August 24, 2008, with the opening ceremony beginning at 08:08 pm at the Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, People's Republic of China.
