About Diesel Locomotives and Engine Trains of Narrow Gauge in RS

Narrow gauge railway network was once among the highest in Europe, and the Bosnia and Herzegovina is certainly an important part of it. There were several track widthсs as follows 600 mm, 750 mm, 760 mm and 1000 mm. In Serbia was used track width of 760 mm.

In Bosnia-Herzegovina beginning of track construction were carried out by Austrian military authorities, realizing the impracticability of terrain decide to build a system of narrow gauge railway to be connected to the network of Austrian and Hungarian normal track. On the other hand the construction of railways in Serbia started with a normal track, but due to constant lack of funds, and on the other hand, seeing a need for new line is decided, also, the narrow gauge railway system. Sometimes the whole railway network of Eastern and Central Serbia was a narrow gauge track.

In 1960s and 1970's due to non-profitability of these lines, there is a gradual removal or "normalization" tracks, so today, unfortunately, we do not have more memories of this important period of development of railways in this country except once again renewed Sargan Eight and railway Mokra Gora - Visegrad.

On our stamps there are some of the diesel locomotives and engine trains of narrow gauge.

Diesel hydraulic locomotive 720 (track 0.76 m)

Purchased for brown coal mine Banovici in 1987 from Machine Industry Nis as locomotives DHL 450U. It was composed of two operating groups, where one pulls forward, the other back. Workshop workers RMU in 1992 modified one into two locomotives series 720-001 and 720-002, and 2004 of the second locomotive made locomotive 720-003 provided that the other half served for spare parts. The engines are manufactured in a factory TAM Maribor.

Diesel hydraulic locomotive JZ 740

It was produced in the factory "Djuro Djakovic" in Slavonski Brod for ZTP Sarajevo. There were produced 40 locomotives from 1968 until 1969. Maximum speed is 50 km per hour.

Four-part series diesel engine train JZ 802.0/802.5

For the purposes of ZTP Sarajevo were produced 12 sets in the factory "Djuro Djakovic" in Slavonski Brod from 1966 until 1968. Maximum speed was 60km / h.

Three-part series diesel engine train JZ 801/806

The product is manufactured in a factory Ganz Mavag in Budapest. For JZ were purchased five sets in 1938. They operated up to 1964. Maximum speed is 70 km to them for an hour. The basic color was metallic silver, and in one period of time they were stained in cherry red.

Narrow gauge railway Visegrad - Vardište is a part of "Eastern line" built by the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the period 1903-1906 linking eastern Bosnia to Sarajevo and the rest of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. With a price of 75 million gold crowns that was one of the most expensive railways in the world built by that time. It has been of strategic importance, because Visegrad was located on the border between Austria-Hungary and Serbia.

First Ciro`s composition has undergone Valley of river Rzav in 1906 to Dobrun, and in the same year opened a part of the railway to Visegrad. After the World War II, start building of the railway from Visegrad to Uzice and it was opened in January 1925.
The railway was important link in Bosnia and Serbia for 49 years. Unfortunately, in 1974, government reversed the line Uzice - Visegrad in 1978 and the railway Visegrad-Sarajevo.

Part of the railway Mokra Gora – Vitasi was renewed in 2003 in tourist purposes, known as "Sargan Eight," the same year ZRS decided to reconstruct the tracks from Mokra Gora to Visegrad. From 2004 to 2006 was completed the railway Vardište-Dobrun, and until 2008 line was set up to tunnel Glogova, a 1.7 km from the station in Višegrad. During 2009 and 2010 Visegrad municipality financed large-scale infrastructural works, with the help of the government. In August 2010 was set up the tracks to the tunnel Glogova and in March 2011 was completed a set of additional tracks at the station in Visegrad, and the final preparations for a use permit are in progress.

These routes operate and will operate special tourist composition of Serbian Railways. One of diesel trains who drive these tracks we displayed at our postage stamp.

Diesel hydraulic locomotives L 45 H with the inventory numbers 077, 096, 097, 098.

They were purchased for the museum-tourist complex "Sargan Eight". It was produced in a factory in Bucharest named FAUR in the period 1980-1990.
