About 100th Anniv. of Women’s Suffrage in Lithuania

Although it is possible for women to contribute to state governance in the same way as men, for centuries, the road to this victory was not easy. The first movement for electoral rights organized by the women who are fighting for equal rights and the opportunity to vote (suffragist) began in 1905 when the Lithuanian Women's Association for the Protection of Women's Rights was founded in Vilnius - to fight for women's right to vote and to participate in the restoration of an independent state. Only 13 years later - 1918 November 2 - women were given the right to vote, which was also included in the interim constitution.
