Fauna
Wildcat (Lynx lynx) is the largest cat and one of the most interesting beasts in Europe. Length of their body is up to 1,30 meters, with the addition of tail 11 to 25 cm, average weight is 25 kg. The characteristics signs of recognition are tufts of hair on the tip of their ears and short tail. Their fur varies from yellowish to grey, marked with dark spots or stripes and like all other cats they have sharp claws. Wildcat is a beast that is a good climber and jumper, hunts at dusk or at night waiting for the prey often hidden in a treetop. It has very sharp eyesight and keen hearing. They feed mainly with goats, chamois and deer as well as other inferior types of game. They kill their prey immediately and if they don’t eat it right away, they came back to finish the job. Male and female meet briefly for mating between January and April. After ten weeks, a female give birth to two or three cubs that stay with their mother until next spring.
Wildcats are an endangered species of predators that died before 50 years in B&H because uncontrolled hunting. Today they re-colonize their hunting-grounds of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
