100th Ann of International Women`s Day
At the beginning of 20th century, during the rapid industrialization and economic growth, and also the bad working conditions especially for women, the idea of marking International Women’s Day has emerged. On 8th March 1908, 15.000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter working hours, better pay and voting rights. Over a hundred women from 17 countries have been participating at the International conference which was held in Copenhagen in 1910. At Clare Zetkin’s proposal, who had a major impact on the international socialist movement, it was decided that the 8th March should be declared as International Women’s Day.
Women’s Day is an occasion to remember all those women who live far away from the world in which the legally established rights of equality and gender equality are governed, women who even today suffer various humiliations despite numerous international agreements which promote human rights. A series of international organizations and associations today provide help to women of the world who have to fight for their rights, trying to ensure their equality. And while the women from civilized countries of the world have their rights, women from isolated and poor countries are still far from the world in which the legally established rights are governed.
