Easter is the greatest and most important Christian holiday that is special in the Christian liturgy, and already more then two millenniums this holiday deeply affects members of the Christian civilization. On Easter we celebrate the main event of Christianity – the Christ's resurrection. That is why being a Christian means that you have to believe that God resurrected Jesus, that was crucified by the people, and made him the Almighty of everything that has been made. The word Easter in the Croatian language was confirmed in the 14th century.
The specificity of Easter is in the link between the spiritual revival with the announcement of the Joyous news of the resurrection of Christ and the physical revival of the human being and nature after the dullness of winter. Therefore, Easter comes on the Sunday after the first full moon, which is after spring’s equinox. That kind of connection between soul and body, the Lord’s words and nature has left and is still leaving an indelible mark in the generations of believers because it touches the deepest human need, and that is hope.
Doubtless is the fact that many ancient people have believed in the revival of the man and nature and in their own customs they followed the natural rhythm of hoping and rejoicing in their own specific way.
However, Christianity first came up with the idea of a rebirth or resurrection. In contrary to the pagan comprehension of destiny, Christianity provided a possibility of radical opening, or more modernly stated, that we could start from the beginning.
That brought to a new kind of ethics: not that everybody has to fulfill his/her duty in their society – a good king should be a good king, a good servant should be a good servant, -but, regardless of who I am, I have a forthright access to universality. Easter is a sign to Christians that, even though there are many pains and sufferings, a bright figure of sense has appeared above people’s fate. It clarifies the sense of suffering of innocent people and gives the message that death is not the final act but only the most difficult part of life.
