Fauna
The Neretva valley has been famous by a numerous birds. Many of them settle permanent the underflow of Neretva. Also, many different birds from distant parts of continental Europe are using Neretva valley and nearby park of nature Hutovo as rest center during exhausting removals.
In swamp delta of Neretva and Hutovo ornithologists record over 300 species of birds. The interest of European biologist for this rich delta rose when Austrian government came.In 1842 Italian doctor F. Laza made the first list of Neretva valley birds, which contains 212 birds.
A huge number of birds’ species favors to the Geographical position of Neretva valley, delta size and diversity of vegetation. Although the economic development has influenced on decreasing area size of untouched nature during past years, Neretva valley is today one of the birds richest river delta.
