Tourism - Kitesurfing
Kitersurf is a relatively new water sport. The first kiters appeared in Montenegro at Velika plaža (Long Beach) in 2000 and their number has rapidly increased in the last couple of years. Kitesurf is very dynamic, a combination of windsurf, wakeboard, gymnastics and other skills... Kitesurf is attractive ‘wave riding’ which utilizes a small (7-15m2) specially designed kite. Thus, using only the wind power and controlling technique you can surf the wide area of Velika plaža, if there is wind, of course. The necessary wind speed is 5-10m/s, which is precisely the speed of maestral (north-easterly wind) blowing at Velika plaža almost every day. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp entitled “Kitesurfing” within the edition “Tourism” containing a postage stamp and a First Day envelope. The author of the conceptual design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
