150 Years of the Lokanda Hotel on Cetinje
Lokanda was the first modern building in Cetinje, and at the same time the first modern hotel in Montenegro in general. It was completed in 1864. From 1892 Lokanda was state-owned, and then the restaurant was given under lease to a merchant from je Cetinje, Vuko Vuletić. The hotel had a restaurant and eight bedrooms. Services were provided in six languages (French, English, German, Italian, Russian and Greek). It could accommodate 100 persons. The hotel building was renovated and upgraded several times, in particular in the war period (in 1924), but it largely kept its original, authentic appearance. It accommodated many important personalities, writers, politicians, diplomats. Lokanda was both a hotel and a cultural institution, and it was severely damaged in earthquake in 1979 when it was definitively demolished. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative edition containing a postage stamp and a First Day envelope within the edition “150 Years of “Lokanda” Hotel in Cetinje”. The author of the conceptual design is Marko Zogović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
