About 150 Years of the Gymnasium in Kotor

The General High School was opened under the Austrian rule in 1864 as a junior high school, and four years of classical grammar school were added in 1871/72. In 1875/76, the General High School in Kotor had all eight grades with 127 students. In the school year 1910/11, the General High School was first attended by students. Because of the war, the school did not work in the period from 1914 to 1917. In the school year 1924/25, the old classical basis was changed and the program of general high school was introduced. The library of the General High School was established in the school year 1870/71 with 362 books, and the number of books increased continuously from year to year. The General High School in Kotor has had a nice tradition and great reputation to this day. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative edition containing a postage stamp and a First Day envelope within the edition “150 Years of the General High School in Kotor”. The author of the conceptual design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
