About 350 years of Ostrog monastery

The monastery under the Ostrog mountain ridge was erected in 1665 by Vasilije Jovanović, Metropolitan of Herzegovina. Two separate units comprise the monastery complex. Particularly impressive is the Upper Monastery, tucked in a natural hollow in the rock. The facade, with clearly prominent bell tower, closes the cave opening. The monastery safeguards the relics of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog. The monastery acquired its present appearance in the restoration carried out in the period from 1923 to 1926. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative edition containing a postage stamp, a First Day envelope and a Maximum card within the edition “350 Years of the Ostrog Monastery”. The author of the conceptual design is Zoran Popović, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
