About Flora - Velemun

Velemun is the name of a type of a highly decorative plant that belongs to the genus of Gentianaceae. The first botanical garden in the area of the Plav municipality, which is located in Brezojevice near Plav, was named after this plant. More precisely – this garden is situated under the mountain Visitor in whose rich flora Velemun is very common. It is well adapted to physiological and partly to natural drought. Velemun is an extremely decorative mountainous plant, which develops a single, very large dark blue or, rarely, purple flower above the leaf rosette. It belongs to the group of mountainous heliophytes. It grows individually or in small groups in the vegetation of mountain meadows on acidic soils. The Montenegro Post is publishing a commemorative postage stamp and a First Day envelope within the edition “Flora”. The author of the conceptual design is Đorđije Radević, a graphic designer from Podgorica.
