Independence

On the referendum held on May 21st 2006, through the democratic will of citizens, Montenegro regained its statehood after 88 years. After official recognition by great number of states Montenegro become standing member of the United Nations as of June 28th 2006. On the occasion of this, extremely important event in the recent Montenegrin history, Montenegro Post issued a stamp dedicated to the independence of Montenegro. At the open competition organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje, the design of Jadranka Simonović, postgraduate student, was awarded. The awarded design symbolically represents Montenegro "...by accentuating eagle as a holder of the sign of independence and freedom.."
