Bowling as a sport in Bosnia and Herzegovina, accompanied by observed success both in European championship and in world championship through prestigious selections as well as on club level in European Cup, is arousing enhanced interest, especially with younger people. According to some sources, bowling was one of the basic entertainment games in old Egypt 2500 years before Christ, and phoenicians and old Greeks have known a similar sport.
After Grude were host of European bowling Championship in 2002, this year that Herzegovinan town is hosting World Bowling Championship from 24. to 30. September 2007. On the municipality of Grude there are four bowling clubs. The oldest bowling club Grude was established in 1998 and after that follows: Sovići, Grupos and Holy Stipan.
Bosnian-Herzegovina bowlers can be proud by the fact that they have current world and European champion Markica Dodig, and bowling clubs regularly place in European Cup quarterfinals. Competition is organized in six disciplines: classic pair, individual classic, twinning and beat in circle, cleanly beat, fast beat and baton beat. This year organization of World Bowling Championship Grude 2007 is the crown of the success of Herzegovinan and Bosnian bowling sport.
