Romfilatelia, the company specialized in issuing and trading Romanian postage stamps, is launching a philatelic issue called Romania’s Scouts.
Originating from a British idea (founded in 1907 by Sir Robert Baden Powell), Scouting has developed largely in the 20th century, spreading not only in Europe, but in other continents as well. In 1913 the first group of Romanian scouts appeared and only a year later, 1914, owing to their creative activity which attracted many young people, the Association “Romania’s Scouts” was founded. In 1992 the Association became a founding member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. In 1938, the year of its dissolution, the organization was everywhere where it was needed.
Re-founded in 1990, the National Organization “Romania’s Scouts” became famous very quickly both in the country and abroad. The scout mission in the Romanian society is to contribute to the education of young people through a system based upon the Promise and one Law, that of helping to build a better world, where people are accomplished as individuals and where they play an important part within the society. This may be accomplished as follows:
- Involving young people in a non-formal educational process, during the years when they shape themselves as individuals;
- Using a specific method which transforms each individual into the main agent of his/her own development as trusting, motivated, responsible and open person;
- Supporting young people in determining a system of values based upon spiritual, social and individual values, such as they are expressed by the Promise and by the Law.
In 1993, the National Organization “Romania’s Scouts” is reaccepted in the World Scout Organization (SCOUT) and currently, in Romania, more than 15,000 members are performing their activities in 110 branches.
The philatelic issue consists of four stamps illustrating various moments of the scouts’ activity, as follows: a tourist orientation activity, rock climbing, the activity of marking the tracks in the mountains and the supervision of the fire in the national natural parks.
