The United Nations Organization has adopted the resolution regarding the creation of the International Day of Non-Violence whose date has been established on October 2nd each year. In order to mark the carrying out of the manifestations dedicated to this day, Romfilatelia introduces into circulation the philatelic thematic issue “The International Day of Non-Violence”.
In the promotion of a firm attitude to support the non-violence between countries and people, between the religious confessions or political groups, Mahatma Gandhi had a significant role as an important defender of religion and Indian nation, tenacious fighter for the elimination on world level of the racial discrimination and violence, under all of its manifestation forms.
On the occasion of the International Day of Non-Violence, on October 2nd, the birth date of Mahatma Gandhi, there the World March for Peace and Non-Violence was included in the program of the manifestations. The World March has as starting point New Zeeland and will end on January 2nd 2010 in the Argentinean Andes. Routes passing through the territories of over 90 countries will be traveled, participants to the march being present in over 100 cities out of the 5 continents. The approximately 160,000 km will be traveled on land, on water and by air. All types of climate and seasons will be crossed over, from the Siberian winter to the torrid summer in the tropical and desert areas.
The purpose of this march is, on one hand, to denounce the world danger that the escalading of the violence represents and in order to make heard the voice of millions of people that are against the war and the race for arming and on the other hand, to evidence the multiple forms of violence (economic, racial, religious, sexual) and to create a global conscience in order to set up a true peace and a general repulsion before any form of violence. The March will actually end the series of manifestations that have taken place throughout the world within the period of 2001-2010, declared The International Decade for a culture of peace and non-violence.
