Romfilatelia resumes its series of projects dedicated to the Fauna topic, which collectors appreciate so much, by introducing into circulation the philatelic issue Wild Ducks, consisting of 4 stamps.
The stamp with the face value of lei 1.20 presents the Mallard of Wild Duck (Anas platyrhynchos), the ancestor of the domestic duck, a sedentary species, nesting and wintering in large numbers all over the Romanian territory.
The Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula) is represented on the stamp with the face value of lei 1.40. In Romania, this species can be seen in winter, in the seaside area;
The stamp with the face value of lei 8.10 reproduces the Northern Shoveller (Anas clypeata), characterized by its very developed beak, flattened at the top, this form giving the bird its popular name.
The Eurasian Teal or Common Teal (Anas crecca), illustrated on the stamp with the face value of lei 14.50, can be found in large number in Romania during winter period, being the smallest-sized of the ducks known to live in our country.
The first day cover reproduces the image of the Mandarin Duck (Aix galericulata). Introduced to Europe in the 18th century as an ornamental bird, on lakes in parks, the species is characterized by the diversified coloring of the male’s plumage, the species’ existence not being observed in Romania so far.
The philatelic album is created into a limited run printing of 300 pcs. equipped with the block of 4 postage stamps and the First Day Cover of the issue and having the “first day” postmark clearly imprinted in gold foiling. Both products are numbered in black from 001 to 300.
