The swimming pool in Hofsós is a gift presented by Lilja Pálmadóttir and Steinunn Jónsdóttir to the Hofsós municipality and its guests. The goal was to create a modern structure which would also harmonize with the old town environment. The building rises from the columnar basalt characterizing the topography of the beach. The swimming pool was designed by Basalt Architects.
The Akureyri Park Café. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Akureyri and the 100th anniversary of its park the municipality decided to build a coffeehouse in the park, where the two oldest buildings in town are also situated. The design of the modern coffeehouse took full account of these ancient building.
The Borgarfjörður Gymnasium. The school is situated between cliffs overgrown with heather and its environment was decisive in shaping the whole building. The goal was to create a local structure in direct communication with its environment, hosting a modern college in a vibrant community. Kurtogpí Architects designed the building.
The footbridge over Hringbraut is the result of a design competition held in 2003. The bridge is cast in-situ with curved timber formwork and expansion joints only at the landings. The delicacy of structure and form is reinforced by the lightweight handrail. Studio Grandi Architects designed the bridge in conjunction with Efla Engineers (formerly Línuhönnun).
